Detoxification is commonly shortened down to detox. It is a process that naturally occurs in the human body to get rid of toxic waste. This is done by turning the waste into fewer harmful compounds, which are then taken out of the body through urine and stools. There can be side effects when on a detox diet. In the first couple of days, you could experience headaches. You could also feel very tired, especially if you have to purge on occasion. Nevertheless, these will go away in a couple of days.
You could also go through a lot of diarrhea, especially if you are doing it for the first time, or the program is particularly harsh. So it is advisable that you seek the advice of a health practitioner before starting such a diet.
Do I have to talk to a doctor first?
It is best that you do talk to a doctor about it. Even if you are feeling irritable, or tired, or are experiencing acne, hunger, weight loss, etc. does not necessarily mean that you should be on a detox diet. During a detox diet can I take medication?
No, if you are sick, you should not undergo a detox diet plan. It is also not advisable to do this while menstruating. Wait until your body is ready.
What kind of diet should I have once the detox plan is over?
Once you have completed a detox diet plan, you should refrain from eating unhealthy food such as fried foods for your first non-detox meal. You should slowly start your less restricted diet over time, and not jump straight back into it.
